Planning Tips for Organized Travel
Whether you are traveling for business or pleasure, to ensure successful, carefree
and relaxing travel you must get organized before you leave. The more organized
you are the less likely you are to have difficulties during your travels. This
includes organizing your travel documents, luggage, carry-on bag, your home
and money and valuables.
Organizing Travel Documents:
Make sure you have an up to date passport that will be up to date for the duration
of your travel. Make copies of all essential documents and store the originals
and the copies in separate locations. This ensures that if your original documents
are lost or stolen while traveling, you still have back up copies that you can
use for the rest of the time that you are traveling. Make copies of your passport,
driver’s license, and social security card. If you are traveling out of
the country, then make sure to check visa requirements for the country you are
traveling to.
Organizing Luggage for Travel:
Inappropriate packing when traveling is probably the quickest way to ruin a
trip. Not having the appropriate clothing or toiletries, or having important
items lost or broken in transit can really ruin a trip. When planning your travel,
make sure that you do the appropriate research about climate, weather, and dress
codes before you pack for your travel. It would be a shame to travel all the
way to Vatican City and not be allowed inside because you are wearing a tank
top and having exposed shoulders is prohibited.
Organizing Carry-on Baggage when Traveling by Air:
If you are only going to travel for a day or two it may be worth considering
taking carry-on only. This saves travel time because you don't have to wait
to claim your checked luggage, and carry-on luggage is less likely to get lost
or stolen. It might also save you money because many airlines charge a fee for
each checked bag. Check with your airline to make sure that your bag fits within
their size/weight restrictions for carry-ons. Also, do not forget about the
security restrictions on what items you can take with you into the passenger
compartment. Liquids and other items are restricted from being carried on to
the main cabin.
Organizing your Home while Traveling:
To have a truly worry free travel experience you must also plan for what is
happening at home while you're away. Make sure you have arrangements in place
for someone to look after your bills, plants and mail. If you are going to be
leaving a house empty, consider finding someone to house-sit for you while you
travel. It is also a good idea to have your home clean and organized before
you leave so that you can relax when you first get home and not stress about
cleaning and chores the second you get home from traveling.
Enjoy your travel and have a safe trip!
